遠古時期，天神寵愛人類，因此賦予人類小米的種子，只需要半粒小米便可煮出一大鍋的飯。但人類覺得若是一次煮下整粒小米，就能煮出更多的飯，於是將整粒小米丟進鍋中，不料烹煮時卻整鍋炸開，小米從鍋子裡滿溢出來後，變成了小鳥飛了出去，邊飛邊喊著：「懶惰的人類啊！從今以後你們無法再如此輕鬆自在了！你們必須靠自己的雙手耕作，當小米成熟時，鳥兒們也會來吃你們的米！」從此以後的族人變安安分分、老老實實地耕作。
