The train was not the only thing that needed maintenance and repairs, also, all equipment from inside to the outside needed as well. Who would maintain those things at what time and how to do that? Lydia was impressed by her engineer friend, Shi Ping because he got the right answer when he heard the sound of a stopping train that was recorded by Lydia! That's the reason that Lydia had to invite Shi Ping, the profession of train, to read and discuss this book together!
