2019 Radio Drama - Taipei Urban Theater: One Night Bride
Based on the novel One Night Bride by Professor Wang Chiung-ling of National Chung Cheng University’s Department of Chinese Literature, this drama delves into the struggles of Taiwan’s marginalized individuals during the Japanese colonial era. Confronted with military conscription, assimilation policies, traditional societal norms, and pervasive gossip, these characters navigate a world marked by resilience and fragility, decisiveness and indifference. Their experiences are a chaotic blend of kindness, deceit, compassion, ruthlessness, gratitude, and resentment—underscoring the harsh reality that survival was never easy. Amid this tumultuous backdrop, the poignant love story of Chiu Hsin and Sakura-ko unfolds. Their sincere yet humble romance is torn apart by the relentless forces of war, leaving them adrift in a heartless and chaotic world. Yet, even in such troubled times, a stabilizing force emerges: a profound warmth rooted in the land, a fervent love for life, and the enduring compassion of humanity.
This production earned the Best Sound Effects Award at the 54th Golden Bell Awards.
