Thousand Miles˙Talks About Music

Introduction

Every journey destined by fate always begins with a story of courage. Even when the seas run dry and the rocks crumble, the voice of peace will ultimately be heard. Therefore, "Hands United in Peace" serves as the core production theme for 2026, curating a year-long, peace-oriented musical experience. Radio is far more than the transmission of sound; it is the vibration of human emotion at the edge of borders. Music Across Miles is not merely a guided tour of music, but an act of "sonic archaeology" in these turbulent times. From the perspective of a curator, the host connects the breath inside a Palestinian tent with the memories of the island of Taiwan, allowing music to transcend geopolitical barriers and become a bridge for healing fragmented memories. Music is the most gentle medium. It feels as though we are standing at the center of the world, inviting everyone to draw upon their own historical memories to understand global pain and struggles across geographic boundaries. Within the cracks of the world, sound has never been silenced. From the military rituals at Panmunjom to the piano playing in a tent in Gaza, from the elegies of Nagorno-Karabakh to the Nanguan drumbeats on the island of Kinmen, music has always been humanity's language for seeking understanding, memory, and peace across borders. Boundaries of Sound: Echoes of Peace is a radio program spanning 26 geographic and cultural locations. Through the voices of 56 composers, musicians, cultural advocates, and policymakers from regions including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Central Asia, the Basque Country, South Korea, Gaza, and Taiwan, it weaves a sonic landscape that transcends language, politics, and history. Music Across Miles goes beyond the mere presentation of music; it is a reconstruction of narrative. Each episode is guided by the dual themes of "Sound as a Weapon" and "Music as Consolation," exploring how music preserves culture amidst conflict, initiates dialogue amid traum

Georgia, renowned for its flourishing musical culture and rich humanistic traditions, has produced generations of classical musicians. Our special guest is Prof. Sophia Sagaradze, a composer born in Georgia and later based in Denmark. Known for her avant‑garde and electronic sound creations, she currently teaches at the Copenhagen Academy of Music. Her representative works include BLOCKS (“my/your/Our Choice to develop world,” 2019), .hereafter., and .offshor.e.scape., all embodying a spirit of cross‑disciplinary exploration. This week’s Kinmen theme highlights a local cultural symbol—the Wind Lion God. With the concept of a “mobile studio,” the host visits the Kinmen Historical Folklore Museum to interview Director Lu Genzhen of the Kinmen Cultural Park Administration. Director Lu speaks of Kinmen’s six‑hundred‑year history of village communities and clan traditions, emphasizing that the Wind Lion God is the island’s spiritual guardian, resonating with Kinmen’s flourishing literary heritage.
