Interview with Azerbaijani Composer Maestro Elmir Mirzoev & Kinmen, the Island of the Soul and the Sanctuary of Peace
Behind every journey of destiny lies a courageous story. Music has never been absent from the cracks of the world. In 2026, "A Thousand Miles of Destiny," with the curatorial theme "Hands United in Peace," launches its annual project, "The Boundaries of Sound: The Music of Peace," inviting listeners to hear sounds from the edges of the world—sounds that are not just memories, but possibilities for the future.
In this episode, we delve into the musical world of the South Caucasus, interviewing Azerbaijani composer Professor Elmir Mirzoev. A key figure in Azerbaijani avant-garde music, he currently teaches at the Baku Conservatory. His works blend historical memory, philosophical allegory, and multimedia vocabulary, showcasing profound humanistic concern and creative energy.
This week's Kinmen theme also revolves around the concept of a "mobile broadcasting studio," taking us to the Kinmen History and Folk Museum for an interview with Lu Genzhen, Director of the Kinmen County Cultural Park Management Office. He discussed how music is the most gentle form of peace communication, hence Kinmen's vibrant music scene, hoping to use music to engage in dialogue with history and become a bridge to the world. Therefore, "Island of the Soul, Holy Land of Peace" is Kinmen's most beautiful definition.
Looking back from the border, it's like seeing a panoramic view of Taiwan and hearing the ancient charm of "Wuzhou."
